Two legs all of them on the asphalt of the Liguria hinterland
west coast: the 52nd edition of Rallye Sanremo will
be like this again.
The economic crisis that this year, even more than in the past
season, involved motorsport, convinced the organizers of the
event valid for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the
Italian Rally Championship and the European Rally Cup to drop
the idea to design a route including again the gavel of Tuscany.
Sergio Maiga, president of Automobile Club Sanremo, explains:
“Maybe we could have carried out the idea to bring Rallye
Sanremo back in the area of Siena, but in order to do that we
would have been obliged to reduce costs in sectors like safety,
were we are not willing to accept any compromise’s choice.
Furthermore we wouldn’t be able to solve any of the economic
problems that a race, like the one we had in mind, would have
entailed for the teams that will take part in the event and,
even more, for the several private drivers that are always
showing their affection to our race.
A leg on gravel and another one on asphalt would have made
necessary a change of car set up during the race and therefore
an increase in costs”.
The choice to use again the asphalt roads of the Imperia area
does not diminish the value of a rally that is the most
prestigious one in the Italian championship.
Once again the Automobile Club Sanremo will offer drivers,
co-drivers, fans and everyone involved, a high level race, in
line with its over eighty years history.
The work that has been done to prepare a Rallye Sanremo with a
wide-ranging route will not get lost, the hope of the organizers
is to just postpone of twelve months the ambitious and
fascinating project…Economic crisis permitting.
